1st Pasta for Prostates
Pasta for Prostates 2012 is over now! It was a lot of work and everyone is telling me I did a great job! There was a disagreeance with the band volume buy one of the guests. But it all worked out and Tyler Wayne stayed and continued the music! There were so many great raffle prizes and Happy Winners!
With the dinner we brought in $550.00 I paid the band $100 for gas. It was so worth it, they are great. If you ever get to hear 2 Country w/ Tyler Wayne you will love it. I still need to settle up with the church and will get a final number soon.
I am second guessing my fundraising ability and need to make a decesion on trying another one. It was just so difficult making everyone happy!

Our Prostate Cancer Angels!
As this month grows to a close I want to remember those Prostate Cancer Angels who have lost their battle!
When we first found out that Ray has prostate cancer I needed to find friends who understood what I was feeling. And I found friends on facebook that are very special to me. They might be Angels now but their voices still needs to be heard for the young men who are afraid to talk about having prostate cancer or being tested!

COMING IN 8 DAYS!!!!!!
In 8 days the 1st Pasta for Prostates will take place! The raffle items are growing daily and so are the pasta donations. I have had many turn downs on donations but then it seems like for every one denied it comes back two fold! I want to thank eveyone who has been helping with the whole planning stages and efforts to this fundraiser.
I am greatful to have friends and families who are just as passionate as I am with Prostate Cancer. So many people thinks it just affects the men, but that is false. We women suffer like the men do, yes we do not have a prostate but we get depression also. Some men will not talk to a support group or anyone else for that matter and then suffer in silence when there is no need to.
September is Prostate Cancer Awareness month and it should be all over the TV with psa. But how many have you seen or heard? I have heard more about breast cancer but the fact it is not breast cancer month. It is in October people we are still in September!!!! Did you know that 28,000 men with die this year of prostate cancer?
Ray has a chance of getting breast cancer from the hormone shots that he is receiving, but I am not worried about it becasue there is so much funding and help for breast cancer I know he will be taken care of. I hope unless the breast cancer funding does not cover men with breast cancer.
Sorry just venting!

The spill on Capitol Hill
On September 13th Ray, Petey and I were at The Summit to End ProstateCancer on this morning we had meetings with our Senators/Staffers.
Around 8:10am I took a spill on Capitol Hill, fell of the curb thinking it was a slope in the sidewalk. Being blind in one eye did not help at all. I go down on my ankle and heard a pop and cry like a baby. I will admit it!!
The Capitol Hill Officers come over to see if I need them to call the squad.
Me (tears flowing): No we have a meeting with Sharrod Brown at 8:30 and I am going no matter what this is too important to me!
Officers: We will get you there but you need to see the Capitol Hill nurse.
Me: After we meet with Sharrod Brown
Officers: We will have a wheel chair waiting for you at the door, we called for the shuttle to get you to the door.
Me: ok I can't miss these meeting they are more important.
At 8:30 am was our first meeting with Sharrod Brown to let him know not to cut funding for prostate cancer and to bring awareness to this disease. It is not just a men's disease it's a couple's disease.

Hi Lisa!
Is there any possible way that Good Day Columbus could do a story about Pasta for Prostates? My husband is a prostate cancer survivor and I since there is little said about prostate cancer I wanted to make a difference. September is Prostate Cancer Awareness month. It sad when I hear someone talking about prostate cancer and my I know their pain being the wife/ caregiver of a Survivor! October 12th it will be 3 years of the 5 year re-occurrence time. My husbands prostate cancer spread out the prostate to the lymph- nodes so he is on hormone treatments. The best news is that he has been in remission.
On Monday we are going to DC for the Prostate Cancer Summit and then we are all going to meet with Ohio Representatives to tell them our stories.
I have a blog called pastaforprostates.blogspot.com
If nothing can be done I sorta understand!
Meteorologist Lisa Colbert Hi Linda! Hope you're having a safe and productive trip to DC. I will definitely share your idea with our AM producers. Being a caregiver must be one of the hardest jobs on the planet, and your husband is lucky to have you. I watched my dad go through the same thing for years with my mom...hard is the understatement of the century. Wishing both of you the best as you continue on the journey together!
The Summit to End Prostate Cancer
Today we are leaving to attend The Summit To End Prostate Cancer. Petey is so excited to go to DC on September 13th we will be going to Capitol Hill to meet with the Representatives from Ohio.

Petey leaving for DC on Monday
Petey is getting excited as he is attending the Prostate Cancer Summit September 11-13! You know how much fun he has on his adventures this is his first one since National Night Out last month. Sometime he has so many people follow him when he is out spreading the word about Prostate Cancer and the attention he gets.
Wonder if he will have a paparazzi follow him in DC!
And being Petey's mom and knowing the mischief he can get into I will have to keep a good eye on him!
Football raffle can!
Ok so the one who knows my creative brain and what I can do with just about anything! Recycled coffee can with the lid into a raffle prize ticket holder, who know it might just be put on ebay!

Excitement is building!
Ray and I went to Carfarnga's Italian Deli/Supermarket today to see about donating some Italian sausage and ground beef to make some extra sauces. Little Sicily's pizza in Brice is donating a case of sauce. I want to make a sweeter sauce for the bellies that can't handle spicy foods. I am one of them.
Ray is making tickets to have them printed and they look great. A keepsake as a reminder for why we are having this dinner! And remembering those who have lost their battle from prostate cancer. In my heart they will never be forgotten!!
Now to plan for the raffle items drawings. Hummm...this part is going to be interesting as we will have the band playing that night also. Have Tyler Wayne call out the ticket numbers or draw them out and write them on a poster board so you can enjoy the concert while eating. I will be getting to Dayspring Community Church at 4pm for setting up the dinner and the band. There will be a table in the parking lot at that time to buy your dinner tickets and also extra raffle tickets will be available then!

FREE TESTING!
The Drive Against Prostate Cancer FREE testing program, is providing FREE prostate test in conjunction with Central Ohio Urology Group, Inc. Early detection is critical. The Drive Against Prostate Cancer tested over 10,000 men last year, saving lives by alerting men with abnormal tests and helping them with further testing and treatment.
It is estimated that Ohio will have over 8,560 new prostate cancer diagnoses this year, and over 1,210 deaths from prostate cancer this year, but there is hope through awareness and early detection. Do not allow yourself to become one of these statistics. Get tested this weekend in the Columbus area at the mobile prostate cancer vehicle sponsored by Central Ohio Urology Group, Inc.

Bill of rights for wives and partners
· Cry as often as you need to but look for humor everyday.
· Worry all you want but know that it won’t change a thing.
· You can be a tower of strength and still fall apart.
· You don’t always have to know the right thing to say.
· Accept that you will never be the perfect wife/partner.
· Forgive yourself for making mistakes.
· On days when you have nothing to give, know that it will be enough.
· Take care of yourself and don’t feel guilty about it.
· Give yourself permission to forget about prostate cancer for a day.
· Hate the disease but always love the man.
· Grieve what you’ve lost and celebrate what you’ve got left.
· Let go of the illusion that you can handle this alone.
· When the burden is too heavy, give it to God.
A Word of Warning
by Nigel Lewis-Baker
NOW here is a message for you guys out there.
A short word of warning – take care and beware.
If you have trouble peeing with all of your might
Or have to get up more than once in the night
If all you can do is dribble and strain
Zip yourself up – and then do it again,
Then the prick you should look for is called a blood test
And the doctors and scientists do all the rest.
Your little prostate may be starting to grow
And squeeze on your organs – and you will not know.
But your pipe called urethra goes right through the middle
Which is why, when it grows, it gets harder to piddle.
It will only get worse – it will not just improve
So make early arrangements to ease or remove
This walnut-size organ that causes such grief
Before it's too late – sort it out – get relief!
It may NOT be cancer – it could just have grown
So a quick exploration and all will be known.
But if it is cancer you have to be quick
To catch it and treat it before you get sick.

Grown Petey
Petey is going on 3 years old now!
The background of Petey first started out when I was passed a plain walnut at one of the support group meeting that we attend. As I am sitting looking at it and listening to why the walnut. My creative brain clicking away....Hummm add some hands, feet, arms and eyes. I get out my Cricut cutting machine, the eyes and the walnut. Bam!! Petey the Prostate Crusader was born.
Since the creation of Petey there has been many generations, I think this is generation 7!

How I became the Central Ohio Regional Coordinator for Zero...e
It all started from my facebook group that I had started. Always eager to know more about prostate cancer and help share the word about awareness, new treatments, research, etc. I would post to other facebook groups to share the information with others. Then one day I was asked to do research looking for Bills that were passed here in Columbus, of course I said yes.
Then one day the offer came to become to be a Central Ohio Regional Coordinator for Zero. At first I was hesitant but then when David told me that this was pretty much what I was already doing on facebook!
Pasta for Prostates is my first fundraiser for September. I am hoping that this will be a yearly fundraiser!!

Us TOO International
After we found out Ray had prostate cancer I needed to find a support group to know we were not alone! I called many diffrent ones and kept running into a road block that they did not allow women into their groups. Just for Men. If you know me I usually don't give up so easily! Finally I reached a group that allowed women with Us TOO. It was fate the day I called was the August meeting, we made the trip to Lancaster, OH.
That is the day we met Bill and Sherry Stevens and it changed our lives. We became part of their prostate cancer family! At first we were all in the same room listening to the presentation and meet the members the first hour. Then we split up the men talked in one room and the ladies went to another room. That day I was one of the newbies telling our story to the ladies was the hardest part of the night. I tried to introduce myself and then the water works started not knowing how to deal with prostate cancer. Everyone knew what I was feeling becasue they were there at one time! Now it is easy to talk about Ray having cancer there was a reason to why we joined this club that no one wants to join.
Us TOO has been a wealth of information, support and great friends! Their website is UsTOO.org

Pasta for Prostates
September is Prostate Cancer Awareness month.
In June 2009 we found out Ray has prostate cancer, he became a Survivor in October!
I wanted to have a fundraiser to raise awareness, so searching on the Internet having a pasta fundraiser was the best plan. I wrote a donation letter asking for donations, earlier this month was The Good Guys car show at the Ohio State Fair grounds. They had Arts and Crafts vendors there, I thought why not ask for donations there. They can't do more than say no. I got two donations there one of which the husband was being treated for prostate cancer.
Ray and I took the letter to CiCi's in Pickerington, OH and told the manager what we are planning, they are going to donate a pan of either spirals or elbow pasta with sauce. Then off to Noodles and Company and told the assistant manager what we are doing and he loved the idea! They are going to donate enough pasta to feed about 40 people maybe more. I would love to have a variety of pastas to have a taste of the different business that have donated to us for a great cause!
In June 2009 we found out Ray has prostate cancer, he became a Survivor in October!
I wanted to have a fundraiser to raise awareness, so searching on the Internet having a pasta fundraiser was the best plan.
