Grown Petey

Petey is going on 3 years old now!

The background of Petey first started out when I was passed a plain walnut at one of the support group meeting that we attend.  As I am sitting looking at it and listening to why the walnut.  My creative brain clicking away....Hummm add some hands, feet, arms and eyes.  I get out my Cricut cutting machine, the eyes and the walnut.  Bam!!  Petey the Prostate Crusader was born.

Since the creation of Petey there has been many generations, I think this is generation 7!

How I became the Central Ohio Regional Coordinator for Zero...e

It all started from my facebook group that I had started.  Always eager to know more about prostate cancer and help share the word about awareness, new treatments, research, etc.  I would post to other facebook groups to share the information with others.  Then one day I was asked to do research looking for Bills that were passed here in Columbus, of course I said yes.

Then one day the offer came to become to be a Central Ohio Regional Coordinator for Zero.  At first I was hesitant but then when David told me that this was pretty much what I was already doing on facebook!

Pasta for Prostates is my first fundraiser for September.  I am hoping that this will be a yearly fundraiser!!

Us TOO International

After we found out Ray had prostate cancer I needed to find a support group to know we were not alone!  I called many diffrent ones and kept running into a road block that they did not allow women into their groups.  Just for Men.  If you know me I usually don't give up so easily!  Finally I reached a group that allowed women with Us TOO.  It was fate the day I called was the August meeting, we made the trip to Lancaster, OH.

That is the day we met Bill and Sherry Stevens and it changed our lives.  We became part of their prostate cancer family!  At first we were all in the same room listening to the presentation and meet the members the first hour.   Then we split up the men talked in one room and the ladies went to another room.  That day I was one of the newbies telling our story to the ladies was the hardest part of the night.  I tried to introduce myself and then the water works started not knowing  how to deal with prostate cancer.  Everyone knew what I was feeling becasue they were there at one time!  Now it is easy to talk about Ray having cancer there was a reason to why we joined this club that no one wants to join.

Us TOO has been a wealth of information, support and great friends!  Their website is UsTOO.org

Pasta for Prostates

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness month.

In June 2009 we found out Ray has prostate cancer, he became a Survivor in October!

I wanted to have a fundraiser to raise awareness, so searching on the Internet having a pasta fundraiser was the best plan.  I wrote a donation letter asking for donations, earlier this month was The Good Guys car show at the Ohio State Fair grounds.  They had Arts and Crafts vendors there, I thought why not ask for donations there.  They can't do more than say no.   I got two donations there one of which the husband was being treated for prostate cancer.

Ray and I took the letter to CiCi's in Pickerington, OH and told the manager what we are planning, they are going to donate a pan of either spirals or elbow pasta with sauce.  Then off to Noodles and Company and told the assistant manager what we are doing and he loved the idea!  They are going to donate enough pasta to feed about 40 people maybe more.  I would love to have a variety of pastas to have a taste of the different business that have donated to us for a great cause!
